BRIGHTON, Mich. – The 20
th-ranked Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team concluded its weekend series with ACHA Division 2 Michigan State on Saturday with a 6-6 tie at Kensington Valley Ice House.
Tech scored twice in the first, once in the second and three times in the final period.
Joe Molfetta and
Adam Jonak each scored in the first, but the Spartans responded with goals to tie the game at two heading into the second.
Tim Wlowkowski would put the Warriors ahead 3-2 at 14:17 in the second, but Michigan State would tie the game at 3-apiece with two seconds left in the period.
A goal from
Dylan Grant would again put the Orange and Black up, but this time the Spartans responded with two straight goals to take their first lead of the game. Jonak would notch his second goal at 14:17 to make it 5-all, but the hosts just 29 seconds later.
Jace Childs would give the Warriors a point with his game-tying and team-leading 25
th goal at 18:45 in the third period.
The game ended in a tie due to circumstances beyond either team's control, which included a flat tire and limited ice time at the rink.
Tech (21-12-1-1-1) now turns its attention to the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) Tournament next weekend at Michigan-Dearborn. The 20
th-ranked Warriors are the sixth seed and will take on third-seeded and 12
th-ranked Wolverines on Friday at 8 p.m. from the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
