CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The #21
st-ranked Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team fell to 15
th-ranked Illinois, 5-2, on Friday night at the University of Illinois Ice Arena.
After falling behind a goal in the first period, Tech would answer back with power play goals from
Ryan Theisen and
Alex Gregorich, and took the lead 17:21 mark in the second to put the Warriors up 2-1.
The lead would be short-lived though, as the Illini scored just under two minutes later on a power play goal from Eric Cruickshank. Cruickshank would score just a minute and seven seconds into the final period, also on a power play, as the hosts scored twice more in the period to pull away from the Orange and Black.
John Slavik made 34 saves for the Warriors, while
Quentin Holmes,
Jarrett Pfeiffer and
Dominick Manochio each tallied an assist.
Tech (21-14-1-1-1) concludes its second season on Saturday with a rematch against the Illini. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. EST from the University of Illinois Ice Arena.
