Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team dropped its first two games of a four-game weekend set against Madonna on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Stadium, falling in game one, 6-5, before falling 7-2 in game two.
Brian Hakes homered in both games to finish the day with four RBI's and two runs while
Keith Tatum went 3-6 on the afternoon with two RBI's, a double, one run and a walk.
Kyle Mead had a double and triple while
Glen McClain and
Jagen Millspaugh also doubled.
Mark Carpenter also tripled in the first game.
James McReynolds took the loss in game one after going 2.1 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits while
Chase Keathley was chased after an inning in the second game, allowing four runs, two earned, one hit and four walks.
Jason Sterrett and Jose Wiesman would combine to go the rest of game one and not allow a run while giving up just one hit with Sterrett striking out seven.
The Crusaders jumped on the board first in the second inning as they used four hits, including three straight, to take a 2-0 lead. Tech would get a run back in the bottom of the inning after
Branson Dossen singled in
Glen McClain, but the Orange and Black would leave the bases loaded after Carpenter struck out.
Madonna would jump on McReynolds in the third with a leadoff home run from Zach Bryon followed by a three-run shot form John Lauro four batters later to put the visitors up 6-1. Hakes would homer to lead off the bottom of the frame and Tatum would send one over the left field wall four batters later to cut the deficit to two, but the Warriors would only be able to cash in one more run the rest of the game as the Crusaders gave the hosts their first home loss of the season.
The visitors would take advantage of three walks and two errors by the Orange and Black in the second while pounding out four hits to open up a 5-0 lead, which also saw head coach
Kip McWilliams ejected after taking two trips out to the mound in the same at-bat.
Madonna would tack on two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 7-0. Hakes would send another ball into the outfield seats in the fourth to make cut the deficit to five, but the Warriors would only get five more runners on base over the final three innings as the Crusaders completed the sweep.
