GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) will sponsor men's ice hockey as a conference sport, starting in the fall of 2017, the conference office announced. Indiana Tech (Indiana Institute of Technology) will host the inaugural conference tournament in the spring of 2018.
Tech will be one of five schools in the WHAC for its inaugural season, joining Aquinas College, Lawrence Technological University, Rochester College and University of Michigan-Dearborn as charter members. Concordia University Ann Arbor recently announced the addition of a men's ice hockey program that will begin competing in the 2018-19 season.
The 2018 WHAC Tournament will take place March 2-4 (Friday-Sunday) at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Members of the WHAC will compete in the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) Varsity Division, which was formed in conjunction with the NAIA, and compete for a national championship in Columbus, Ohio in March 2018.
