FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech Department of Athletics will be adding the sport of men's volleyball and begin competing in the 2019-20 academic year, Director of Athletics Debbie Warren announced Monday.
 
"We are excited to bring men's volleyball back to Indiana Tech," Warren said. "With the growth of the sport in the NAIA and the WHAC, we felt it was a good opportunity to bring a new program into the Warrior family. We believe that men's volleyball will increase the diversity of our department and our campus as a whole."
 
Tech sponsored the sport from 1962-73 and competed in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) during that time. The Warriors will be members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), which began sponsoring men's volleyball this year. Other WHAC schools that sponsor men's volleyball include Aquinas College, Lawrence Technological University, Lourdes University and Siena Heights University, while Goshen College is an affiliate member in the WHAC for men's volleyball.
 
The NAIA added men's volleyball as an invitational sport in the 2015-16 academic year and made it the association's 26^th national championship for the 2018-19 year.
 
The addition of men's volleyball now brings the number of sports at Tech to 25 (13 men's, 12 women's and one co-ed and total athletic teams to 26.
 
A national search for a head coach will begin immediately.
