CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Men's ice hockey excels past #2 Robert Morris last night with a strong second period comeback to win 6-3 and move on to the semifinals today.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period before the scoring spree unleashed for both teams in the second.
Joel Homberg was the first to score for the Warriors at the 4:16 mark from
Adam Vannelli and
Ryan O'Toole to put the Warriors ahead 1-0. The lead did not last long as 18 seconds later Robert Morris snuck a goal in to tie it 1-1. Under three minutes later Robert Morris scored again to take their first lead of the game 2-1. They extended their lead at the 8:10 mark with another goal to go up 3-1.
This only motivated the Warriors and at the 8:44 mark Tech took advantage of a powerplay when
Filip Schultz scored from
Cole Barney and
Alex Potter to get back within one of Robert Morris (3-2). At 12:13 the Warriors found the back of the net on an off angle by
Zach Bennett from
Matej Krasny and
Axel Low for Tech to tie the game 3-3. The Warriors were not satisfied and claimed another goal less than 30 seconds later from
Nick Papandrea and assisted by
Potter and
Fabian Granqvist. The Warriors led the game 4-3 headed into the third period.
In the third period, Tech held Robert Morris scoreless while scoring two more themselves.
Schultz tallied another goal at the 15:23 mark from
Holmberg and
Alex Arnold and just before the game ended Tech snuck in another by
Granqvist from
Bear Ross and
Papandrea. The Warriors won the game 6-3 to advance to the semifinals against #1 seed Adrian.
Bryson Linenburg earned the win in the net for the Warriors playing 31:50 with 12 saves while
O'Toole started the game playing 28:10 with 10 saves and an assist.
Tech is back in action in the semifinals tonight against #1 seed Adrian at 4:30 p.m. ET.
