FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech assistant men's volleyball coach Will Dowdy has resigned from his position to accept the duties as head coach of the Trine University men's volleyball program as the hiring was announced by Trine Wednesday.
Dowdy was an instrumental figure in the rebirth of the Warrior program that began play in 2020 after a 40-year hiatus from Tech. His work with the Warrior defense paid dividends, with the 2021 squad earning numerous national rankings, including first in blocks per game (2.5) and seventh in total blocks (203.0). Dowdy played a key role in recruiting, helping to bring in nine student-athletes for the 2020 class while assisting as a video coordinator.
Dowdy helped Tech to a 27-18 record over his two seasons, including a share of the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season title and a berth in the 2021 NAIA National Championship. He was named the 2021 National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
During his time in Fort Wayne, Dowdy became the co-founder of the Warrior VC, a youth volleyball club where he has since served as head coach of the 16U team.
Dowdy graduated from Adrian College with a Master of Arts in Sports Administration and Leadership in 2018 following earning a Bachelors of Business Administration from Adrian in 2016. He was a member of the men's volleyball program at Adrian that began play as an NCAA Division III program in 2016.
