Box Score 1 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 10-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team faced off against a well-coached Calvin Knights team this past weekend, earning the sweep by final scores of 3-2 OT and 3-1.
The first contest of the series was held at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse on Friday night.
Malik Ali would put the Warriors ahead in the first period after
Wil Campbell found him rushing towards the net. After a Calvin goal later on that same period, it was the hometown kid,
Cole Barney, who would put in a wrister off of the assist from
Alex Arnold and
TJ Dougan. The Warriors lead held true until about five minutes were remaining in the game, when Calvin tied the game up and forced overtime. Just under one minute and a half into OT, it was
Cam Chabot who would fake out and Calvin goaltender and end the game, sneaking the puck into the net for the 3-2 victory.Â
On Saturday night the Warriors traveled up to Grand Rapids for game two of the series at Eagles Ice Center. The Warriors were in control of this one throughout it's entirety.
Jacob Gibson and
Zach Bennett scored in the first period, giving Tech a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The second period saw Bennett score yet again for his 16th on the year. The Warriors did give up a goal in the third, but it was too little, too late for the Knights.
Ty Barnhill made 39 saves on the weekend to improve his record to 12-2 on the season.
Indiana Tech improves to 22-4 (15-3 WHAC) on the season and will look to get back into their remaining conference schedule this Friday, as they will host Aquinas (14-7, 11-6 WHAC) in what is set up to be Warriors For Kids night at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, in which fans will be encouraged to wear Red and to make donations to the Riley Hospital for Children. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM.Â
