Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 Ice Hockey team found itself playing catchup most the game against Calvin College Saturday night. The Orange and Black had a solid second period with a pair of goals that twice cut their deficit to one, but the Knights came on in the third to take the game 5-2.
For the second time in as many nights, goaltender
Russell Smascz faced a barrage of shots with a total of 79 in both weekend contests. The power play was clicking for the Warriors as both goals were scored with the man-advantage.
After getting the last goal Friday,
Connor Barney picked up where he left off with the team's first goal to make it a 1-2 game in the second.
Nick Denice and
Jerret Haas earned assists on the team's first specialty-team's goal.
The Warrior's leading scorer and captain,
Ryan Theisen, then brought the Orange and Black within a goal again with the team's second power-play tally that made it a 2-3 game.
Barney earned an assist on Theisen's goal and ended the night as the team's only multiple-point scorer.
"Much like Friday's game, we played most of today's game well enough to win, but we needed to play the entire game to win against the best teams on our schedule," said assistant coach
Andrew Weiss.
The D3 team will break for the holiday next weekend and then head to Cincinnati, Ohio for a couple of weekend games against Xavier University Friday, Dec 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6.
