Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 Ice Hockey team went toe-to-toe with their cross-town rivals before the game was decided in the final minutes. The Warriors dropped to IPFW Friday night before a full house at the SportOne Parkview IceHouse, 3-5.
The teams were just one goal apart with three minutes left in the contest, but IPFW got a late tally to seal the win. The Warriors trailed by a goal four times during the contest and twice rallied to tie.
Nick Janiszewski had a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors. He tied the game at 1-1 in the first period on assists from
Ryan Theisen and
Jerret Haas. Janiszewski then with
Tyler Grunden set-up
Chad Swartz in the second period to knot the game at 2 apiece.
IPFW would add a pair of goals for a two-goal second-period lead before
Nick Denice brought Tech within a goal at 3-4 to end the middle frame.
The teams would trade chances to the wire before IPFW's late goal.
Indiana Tech out-shot IPFW, 38-34. Goaltender
Russell Smascz recorded 29 saves for Tech.
The D3 team will next travel to Adrian, Mich. Jan. 29 for a 7 p.m. game against the ACHA D3 three-time reigning national champions to start 2015.
