BOX SCORE | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division III Ice Hockey team, playing shorthanded, nearly got a hat track from newcomer Jace Childs, but his two tallies weren't enough in a 10-3 loss to IPFW at the SportONE/Parkview IceHouse on Thursday night.

The Warriors (9-16) played with just 10 skaters and held their own for much of the contest, including playing an even second period. The Mastodons (14-10-1) scored the first five goals, but Childs made his presence known in the second as he took a pass from Tyler Grunden and Nick Denice and slipped it past the goalie for Tech's first goal.
The visitors added another tally but Justin Richardson scored for the Warriors to cut the deficit to four and Childs followed minutes later with a one-timer from Grunden and Denice to cut the deficit to three.

IPFW added four tallies in the final period, but Childs had a chance at the upper corner of the net in the game's final minutes, but was slashed and just missed the cross bar, denying him the hat trick in his first game as a Warrior.

The contest featured 17 penalties with 11 going against the Mastodons, while the Warriors tallied 31 shots to IPFW's 37.

Childs led the offense with 13 shots and two goals while Denice added six shots and two assists.

The Warriors will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 29 when they travel to Adrian, Mich. to face Adrian College – Gold with faceoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
