FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 ice hockey team heads back to the road for a weekend trip to Kent State in Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) action.

Last Time Out: The Warriors fell to No. 24 Western Michigan on Monday, 4-3, in overtime. Tech fell behind 3-0 midway through the second period, but cut the deficit to one after 40 minutes thanks to goal from
Jace Childs and
Dominick Manochio.
Jarrett Pfeiffer sent the game into overtime with a goal in the third, but the Stallions scored a minute and 20 seconds into the extra period to earn the win.
Head Coach Frank DiCristofaro: The first head coach in program history,
Frank DiCristofaro enters his second season as Head Ice Hockey coach at Indiana Tech. In his first season at the helm, he guided the Warriors to an 8-26 record while playing one of the toughest schedules in the ACHA. The program's first win came against then 14
th ranked Oakland University Golden Grizzlies on Sept. 27, 2014. Under DiCristofaro's watch, the Warrior hockey program was able to gain entry to the highly-respected Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL). The league boasts annual powerhouses Adrian, Davenport and Oakland. As part of one of the deepest and most talented leagues in the ACHA, the Warriors are tested by the best on a weekly basis.
Scouting the Opposition: Kent State – The Golden Flashes have only dropped one game all year and that was back on Oct. 9 to Western Michigan. Kent State is coming off a weekend sweep of Pittsburg at home, winning, 3-2, on Friday and, 4-3, on Saturday, respectively. Jake Hainline leads the team in goals (eight) and points (14) while also dishing out six assists. Bobby Rhue tops the team in assists with seven, while Jon Buttitta has six goals to his credit. Sky Buller has played the majority of minutes in net this year, logging over 514 minutes of ice time and sporting a 7-1-0 mark. He has a 2.68 goals against average (GAA) and is stopping over 90% of the shots he faces.
Series Notes: Kent State – The Warriors lost both meetings to the Golden Flashes a season ago in Kent, falling 5-2 and 5-3, respectively.
Program First: With two wins over Eastern Michigan over the weekend of Oct. 9-10, Indiana Tech completed the first series sweep in program history. The Warriors blanked the Eagles, 9-0, on Oct. 9 before coming away with a 5-2 win on Oct. 10. 14 different Warriors recorded at least one point while half of them had multi-point weekends.
Ryan Attwood,
Adam Jonak and
Quentin Holmes led the team in goals with two apiece, while Holmes, Attwood and
Joe Molfetta added three assists over the two games.
Zach Larson picked up both the wins while stopping 44 shots over the weekend.
Scoring in a Variety of Ways: Forward
Jace Childs leads the Orange and Black with 13 goals and has dished out a team-high 12 assists for a team-best 25 points. He has notched four of his goals on the power play while also netting two on the penalty kill and recording two game-winners.
Team Effort: Over 85% of the Tech roster (18 out of 21, excluding goalies) has recorded at least one point through the first 13 games this season, while 17 different Warriors have scored at least one goal and 17 different players have notched at least one assist.
Jace Childs leads the team in all three categories (25, 13, 12), while
Ryan Theisen and
Adam Jonak each have seven goals apiece.
Joe Molfetta and
Jarrett Pfeiffer have both dished out 11 assists.
No Easy Skating: As Indiana Tech enters its first season as a member of the GLCHL, they will be tested night-in and night-out. Six of the nine GLCHL teams: Adrian (sixth), Davenport (ninth), Michigan-Dearborn (12
th), Rochester (22
nd), Western Michigan (24
th) and Oakland (25
th) are all ranked in the latest ACHA Top 25 Poll. The GLCHL has the second most teams ranked of any conference and is also second in terms of percentage of teams ranked (.667) The Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) each led the way with all seven teams ranked while the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) has all five members in the Top 25.
