BOX SCORE | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division III Ice Hockey team finished out their 2014-15 season against IPFW at Canlan/SportOne Parkview Ice House Thursday night, topping off their inaugural season with a 9-6 victory over the Mastodons.
The Warriors, who played the contest with just eight skaters, got on the board first as
Tyler Grunden connected with
Jace Childs to put Tech up one just four minutes in. IPFW answered with a pair of tallies but goals by Childs (
Justin Burge/
Nick Denice) and Denice (
Jerret Haas/Grunden) gave the Orange and Black the advantage until a late goal from the home team tied the score at the break.
A quiet second saw the Mastodons score twice but Tech didn't fold. The Warriors came out firing in the third, led by Childs and
Nick Janiszewski. Childs recorded a hat trick less than a minute into the final period, but IPFW answered to maintain the two goal margin. Janiszewski (Childs/Denice) tallied his first points of the night to spark a 5-0 run by Tech that saw consecutive tallies by Nikolas Moehring (Grunden/Haas), Janiszewski (Haas) and a pair from Childs, one assisted by Denice and
Chad Swartz.
Childs led the team with five goals and six points while fellow skaters Haas, Denice, and Grunden all tied with three assists a piece. Goalie
Braden Susnik had 28 saves on 34 shots playing all sixty minutes.
This game concluded the Division III Warriors' season with a 9-18 record going 8-12 on the road and finishing 1-3 at home. On Saturday the Division I Ice Hockey team takes on the Rochester College Warriors at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The puck is expected to drop at 1:30 p.m.
