FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team kicks off a three-match home slate this weekend with a pair of WHAC games with huge implications. First up on Friday is #RV Cornerstone University, just ahead of the Warriors in the conference standings by a game. On Saturday, the Orange and Black welcome in Davenport University, who is tied for fourth in the WHAC with Tech.

Jazmin Alexander finished right behind the reigning WHAC Offensive Player of the Week with 12 apiece. St. Martin would also add 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the year. Freshman
Gabby Staggs finished with a game-high 10 blocks and WHAC Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Kelso continued to rack up the digs with 20 in the match, while
Karli Jones and
Mara Zell dished out 23 and 22 assists, respectively.
Head Coach Kourtney Wilson: Now entering her fourth year at the helm for the Indiana Tech volleyball team, head coach
Kourtney Wilson holds a 63-47 record, the second most wins in program history. Last season, Wilson led the Warriors to an 18-17 record, finishing eighth in the WHAC with a 9-13 record before losing to #15 Davenport in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals. She has coached 18 WHAC All-Academic team members, 10 All-Conference selections, nine NAIA Scholar-Athletes, one All-Freshman team selection in
Taylor Kelso, and one NAIA All-American, Kelsey Cox.
In her first season at the helm, Wilson led her squad to a 25-12 record with a 9-2 mark in conference play. The Warriors finished the year third in the WHAC standings and advanced all the way to the conference tournament semifinals.
Scouting the Opposition: Cornerstone – The Golden Eagles defeated Davenport on the road Wednesday night, 3-1. Chelsea Lakes finished with a game-high 25 digs, 16 kills and three aces in the win, while Hope Leppink dished out a season-high 47 assists.
Davenport – The Panthers lost to Cornernstone at home on Wednesday, 3-1. Molly Lameyer and Krissy Dill each finished the match with double-digit assists, while Sami White dished out 35 assists and Morgan Torres recorded a game-high 25 digs. Davenport will play Marygrove on Friday evening in Livonia, Michigan before traveling to the Summit City.
Series History: Cornerstone – The Warriors are 11-9 against the Golden Eagles and have lost three straight. The Warriors lost both matchups a year ago, 3-0, and 3-1, respectively. Tech last won in 2012 in Grand Rapids.
Katelyn St. Martin recorded 22 kills and 18 digs in the two meetings, while
Taylor Kelso recorded 11 and 21 digs, respectively.
Davenport – The Orange and Black are 7-11 against the Panthers since 2006 and are currently on a six-game losing streak, only winning four sets over that time.
Taylor Kelso recorded double-digit digs in all three matchups a season ago, while
Katelyn St. Martin finished with double-digit digs in two of the matches.
Picking up the Hardware: The junior duo of
Cassie Sarabia and
Taylor Kelso were named the WHAC Attacker and Defender of the Week, respectively, in the latest weekly WHAC awards. Sarabia garnered her first-career weekly honor after leading the Warriors in kills last week, registering 16 in a 3-1 win over Marygrove on Wednesday, before recording a career-high 18 against UNOH on Saturday in a 3-1 victory. Kelso also picked up her first weekly conference award after two more matches in which she recorded double-digit digs. She notched 22 against the Mustangs and 29 against the Racers to increase her total to 262 on the year.
Digging It: Junior
Taylor Kelso has made a living diving on the floor over her three years with the Warriors. Through her first two seasons, she amassed 1,142 digs and is showing no signs of slowing down. Through 12 matches this year, she has 282 digs, 31
st in the nation, including a season high 31 against Bethel. She has only failed to break double-digit digs once this year, when she only notched nine against Concordia on Sept. 9. Kelso has reached 30 or more digs three times in her career. Her 5.32 digs per set currently ranks 21
st in the nation and leads the WHAC, while she is second in the conference in total digs.
Block Party: Freshman
Gabby Staggs has made her living at the net this season. She ranks first in the WHAC in blocks per set (1.29) and third in total blocks (66). Nationally, Staggs numbers ranks 17
th in blocks per set and 23
rd in total blocks. She reached the double-digit plateau against Lawrence Tech as she finished with 10 total blocks. She has played in all but two sets this fall and ranks fourth on the team in kills (64).
