FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division 3 men's ice team used a three-goal third period and stellar goaltending from
Chris Boyd to take down Michigan, 4-1, on Saturday night at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
Tied at one after two periods, the Warriors turned on the offense in the final period with three goals, the first coming at 13:33 on a short-handed opportunity.
Tyler Grunden stole the puck deep in the Wolverines zone and buried it in the net to give Tech the lead.
Jerret Haas then scored just over three minutes later and
Austin Griffis scored a short-handed empty-net goal with 2:15 left to go. Griffis also scored the first goal of the game.
Chris Boyd made 36 saves in net to pick up the win, while the Warriors penalty kill was a perfect six-for-six.
Tech (8-9-1-0) stays at home next weekend when they welcome in Eastern Illinois to the Summit City. Puck drop is set for 8:40 p.m. on Saturday from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
