FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech Division 3 men's ice hockey team defeated in-state rival Indiana, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon in nonconference action at the SportONE/Parkivew Icehouse on Senior Day.
The Warriors would take advantage of 51 penalty minutes by the Hoosiers, scoring two power play goals.
Chad Cobb would give Tech the early advantage with his team-leading eighth goal before
Michael Cruse lit the lamp with five seconds to go in the first on the man-advantage to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Indiana would cut the deficit to one at 8:04 in the second, but
Ryan Krolikowski would respond eight minutes later to restore the two-goal advantage for the Orange and Black. Tech would then chase starting Hoosier goalie Matthew Turner just 1:56 into the third period with a goal from
Josh Brown to take a 4-1 lead.
In an almost perfect Senior Day script, senior
Jerret Haas would find classmate
Brandon Gallo on a breakaway and the Buffalo, New York native would send it home to make it a 5-1 game and give both Tech seniors points on the day.
Krolikowski would finish the day with three points while
Christian Sandberg and
Jordan Reese had two each.
Braden Susnik would record 48 saves in net for the win.
Tech (9-11-1) returns to action on Friday, January 27, when they host Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) rival Grand Valley State in their final home game of the season. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from rink two at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
