Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team fell to Western Michigan in overtime, 6-5, on Saturday evening in their weekend finale at Wings West Arena.
"We had a two-goal lead in the third period and couldn't hang on," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "We need to put teams away when we get to that point and we didn't do that tonight."
The Stallions would hold a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, but the Warriors would respond with two goals in the first eight minutes of the second period to tie the game up at 2-2. Western Michigan responded with their third goal of the night at 10:36 in the period, but a power play goal from
Reed Kaiser and a short-handed goal from
Jarrett Pfeiffer would give Tech the 4-3 lead heading into the third.
Adam Jonak would give the Orange and Black a two-goal lead at the 6:27 mark in the final period of regulation, but the hosts would not give up as they tied the game up on a short-handed goal with just under seven minutes to play. WMU notched the game-winning goal 75 seconds into overtime to tie the I-69 Cup at one game apiece.
Zach Larson made 19 saves in net for the Warriors.
Tech (17-4-1) returns to action on Friday as they host Aquinas in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchup that will also serve as the team's Cervical Cancer Awareness game. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
