TROY, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's ice hockey program has accepted an invitation from the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) to join the Division I ranks beginning in the 2021-22 season, head coach
Scott Hicks and ACHA Executive Director Craig Barnett announced Friday.
"We are thrilled to get accepted into the ACHA Women's Division 1 ranks," Hicks said. "This marks another big step in the development of our program."
The Warriors will be the 28
th team in ACHA Division 1 when they hit the ice for their first season next fall and will be the first team from Indiana to compete at the ACHA Division 1 level. The University of Notre Dame has a team in the ACHA Division 2 ranks. Other regional members of ACHA Division 1 include: Adrian College, Aquinas College, Concordia University Ann Arbor, Davenport University, Grand Valley State University, Miami University (Ohio), Michigan State University, Roosevelt University, the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Tech will now look to find a conference home for their inaugural campaign, with the hopes of joining the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA), which is the conference home of Adrian, Aquinas, Davenport, Grand Valley State, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Roosevelt and UM-Dearborn.
