MARLBOROUGH, Ma. – The Indiana Tech women's hockey team fell to Adrian College (Mich.) in the ACHA National Championship quarterfinals 5-3 on Saturday morning.
The No. 5 seeded Warriors and No. 4 seeded Bulldogs were pitted against each other for the sixth time this season on Saturday in the quarterfinals, fueling the rivalry between the two sides. In the game, the Warriors got on the board first with a goal from
Megan Yakiwchuk at the 10:58 mark of the first period. The Bulldogs would answer on the powerplay later in the period to tie it at one through one period. Adrian would get the scoring started in the second period, but
Maddie Beek would tie it up for the Warriors just 40 seconds later, as the teams would stay tied at two heading into the final period of play. Indiana Tech's
Michelle Borland would score just under six minutes into the third period to give the Warriors the 3-2 lead. However, Adrian would answer three minutes later to tie the game at three. Then with just 2:30 remaining in the tied game that would see the winner move onto the semifinals, the Bulldogs scored on the powerplay to take the lead. They would add another in the final seconds and go on to win the game 5-3 to eliminate the Warriors from the tournament.
Mackenzie Addley made 30 saves in goal for the Warriors.
Indiana Tech fell just short this season, falling in the quarterfinals of this year's national tournament, matching last years finish. The Warriors finish the season at 27-7 and an impressive 18-2 in conference play, improving on last year's inaugural season record of 23-9-1.
The No. 4 seeded Bulldogs advance to the semifinals with the top three seeds, Liberty University, Midland University, and Minot State University to be played Sunday, March 19. The final will be on Monday, March 20 at 1 pm where, the ACHA Women's Hockey National Champion will be crowned.
