Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE Ind - The Indiana Tech Warriors Women's hockey team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia to play the 5 time National Champions, Liberty University, in a two-game series. The Warriors fell short in both games losing 2-0 on Thursday night and 4-1 on Friday afternoon. This moves their overall record to 18-10-1 on the regular season.
In game one, the score remained 0-0 going into the 2nd period, but Liberty found the back of the net early in the second to take the lead. Not long after, still in the second period, Liberty capitalized on a power play scoring from the point taking the lead up to 2-0. The third period remained scoreless as Tech couldn't tie the game, but battled hard to the finish line. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played 60 minutes in goal saving 37 shots in total.
In game two, Liberty took the lead late in the first period on a power play goal. Early in the second period, Liberty found a way to get up by two, scoring again from the point. Shortly after, the Warriors found a way to get one back as Izzy Pettem-Shand scored with 30 seconds left on the power play, assisted by Michelle Borland making it 2-1 Liberty, late in the second. Liberty capitalized on another power play and finds a way to fight back making it 3-1 for the Flames going into the third period. Liberty managed to find a fourth goal late in the third period as the Warriors fall to Liberty 4-1. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played 60 minutes saving 31 shots in total.
The Warriors are looking to secure a conference championship next weekend as they travel to the Crystal Fieldhouse in Burton, Michigan to compete in the yearly CCWHA Tournament. Times and dates are TBD.
