Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #8 Indiana Tech Warriors Women's Hockey team played the #1 Adrian College Bulldogs in a two-game series this past weekend, ending with a 3-3 tie on the road, and a 2-1 overtime loss at home. With both games ending in a close battle, the Warriors went in full steam ahead as they faced off the 2024 ACHA National Champions in their season opening weekend. The Warriors traveled to Adrian (MI) on Thursday night and played at home on Friday at the SportONE/ Parkview Icehouse. This moves their overall record to 0-1-1 in the regular season.
In game one on Thursday night, the Warriors came out strong scoring the first goal of the game shorthanded when senior Isobel Pettem-Shand found the back of the net making it 1-0 late in the first period. Tech managed to stay up a goal until late in the second period, but the Bulldogs found a way to tie it, making it 1-1. Not long after, Adrian College found the lead on a power play goal making it 2-1 for the Bulldogs late in the second. In the middle of the third period, the Bulldogs found a way to the back of the net once again, putting Tech down 3-1. The Warriors didn't back down though. Senior
Megan Yakiwchuk would find the back of the net, assisted by
Arina Jusczak and
Hailey Terpstra, closing Adrian's lead to one goal. Not long after in the third period, freshman
Carys Wytinck scored a beautiful first goal as a Warrior, from the point on a power play goal tying the game 3-3. Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation, so the Warriors battled into overtime. The game remained a tie as the neither team was able to find a way to victory.
In game two on Friday, it was another close battle going back and forth. Adrian found a way to take the lead halfway through the first period making it 1-0, but shortly after, senior
Megan Yakiwchuk scored her second goal of the weekend tying the game 1-1 after the first period, assisted by
Halle Murray and Isobel Pettem-Shand. There were many chances on both sides, but senior goaltender
Izzy Varner stood on her head for the Warriors, keeping it tied throughout regular play. Headed into overtime for the second game in a row in the series, the Warriors would end up falling short as Adrian found the back of the net a minute and a half into overtime to win it 2-1. Senior goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 61 minutes and 26 seconds, saving a total of 27 shots.
The Warriors have a few weeks off, preparing for their first long road trip of the season as they travel to Fremont, Nebraska to play #2 Midland University on Friday, October 18
th and Saturday, October 19
th, both at the Snider Ice Arena.
