CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Indiana Tech (RV) Men's and Women's Cross Country teams went on their furthest road trip of the season as they competed at the Seminole Valley Stampede in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday. Both teams would finish inside the top ten with
Juan Caballero and
Bronwyn Nel leading the charge.
The Indiana Tech women would finish 8
th of 17 teams as a group in a solid team performance with all six runners recording PR's. But the story of the day came from
Bronwyn Nel's third place finish. In just her third collegiate race, and second time running the 6k, Nel broke the women's 6k record at Indiana Tech with a time of 21:55. The freshman from Benoni, South Africa was one of three runners to go sub 22 in the race and trailed the leaders by just 21 and 2 seconds.
Sarah Koker would follow up last week's runner up performance with an 11
th place finish this weekend, breaking the 23-minute mark with a time of 22:50.
Karla Julian (24:15),
Makella Sweeney (25:54), and
Grace Remington (26:59) rounded out Tech's top five. The Warriors finished eighth overall with a score of 216, while #15 Aquinas won the event with a score of 63.
On the men's side,
Juan Caballero would break his own school record in the 8k, running a 25:04. The junior from Valladolid, Spain would finish in sixth place to lead the Warriors.
Giulio Romano and
Javin Mericle both ran 26:06 with Romano coming out ahead by one tenth of a second.
Kobee Beck (26:10) and
Christopher Putman (26:30) rounded out the top five competitors for the Warriors. Overall, the Warriors finished 7
th of 23 teams with a score of 173, while #19 Aquinas won the event with a score of 64.
Tech will have a couple weeks off before their next race on Saturday, October 25
th at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan hosted by Aquinas.
