ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The #9 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team competed in the ACHA National Tournament this week in St Louis, Missouri. The Warriors would sit in a group of three with #4 Midland University (Neb.) and #5 Minot State University (N.D.), where each team would play each other once with the group winner advancing to the semifinals. Unfortunately, the Warriors would fall short in both games, losing 3-1 against #4 Midland and 5-2 against #5 Minot State as their season would come to an end in the pool play round.
In game one, Midland University took an early lead in the 1st period at 11:13. The 2nd period saw Midland extend their lead at 8:46 making it 2-0. Indiana Tech responded at 15:14, with
Halle Murray scoring a goal assisted by
Allison Greene. However, Midland University answered back just over a minute later at 16:42, to make it 3-1. Neither side was able tore in the third as the Warriors fell short by a 3-1 final. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 60 minutes, saving a total of 28 shots for Tech.
In the second game of pool play, Tech would take on Minot State in a seemingly meaningless game for both sides after Midland had already locked up the group after defeating both sides in the previous two days to advance to the semifinals. However, the game would still be important as both sides would try to finish as the runner up in the group. The Beavers started the game with a power-play goal at 10:52 in the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second period, Minot State extended their lead with goals at 8:29 and at 10:33. Minot added another goal at 13:18 to make it 4-0 after two periods. The third period saw Minot State continue their offensive push scoring at 4:38. The Warriors responded late, with
Hailey Anderson scoring on the power play at 19:10, and
Arina Jusczak following up with another goal at 19:37, assisted by
Dakota Bowler and
Hailey Anderson to get it 2-5. Despite Indiana Tech's late efforts, Minot State secured the 5-2 win, sending the Warriors home empty handed. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 60 minutes and saved 29 shots in net for the Orange & Black.
The Warriors finish the 2024-25 year with a 20-12-2 overall record. This season's completion marks the end of an era as the first ever class of women's hockey players at Indiana Tech have now played their final games as Warriors. The 11 seniors have each played a pivotal role in the quick success of Indiana Tech women's hockey and have etched their names into the program's history books. This season was also Head Coach
Sommer Ross' first at Tech as she concludes a successful season by helping to take the Warriors to the ACHA National Tournament.
