Box Score 2 LIVONIA, Mich. – It was tournament week for the #7 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team as the Warriors would head into the 12 team CCWHA playoffs as the #3 seed in the Huron Division. The Warriors would win their first round matchup on Thursday evening, defeating Davenport University with a final score of 11-1, but would fall to #8 ranked and #2 seed Michigan Dearborn in the second round of the CCWHA playoffs, losing 0-1 after 6 rounds of overtime in an intense close game battle.
In the first game against Davenport, the Warriors offense got started early with
Allison Greene (1:06 & 16:21 1st) and
Arina Jusczak (12:27 1st) setting the tone before
Ashley Episcopo (18:35) capped off a dominant first period up 4-0. The second period saw the momentum continue, with
Halle Murray striking quickly at 1:08. Late in the period
Dakota Bowler (13:51 2nd),
Sylvie Legault (15:15 2nd), and
Mikayla Kalverda (17:27 2nd) all found the back of the net, giving their team full control. Davenport managed to get one at 12:59 in the second period, but Tech led 8-1 at the break. The final period was filled with more Warrior goals, as
Halle Murray (01:33 3rd) and
Arina Jusczak (04:24 3rd) each grabbed a second, finishing with another by
Allison Greene (06:18 3rd), completing Greene's three-goal night as the Warriors would easily take care of the Panthers by a final of 11-1. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played all 60 minutes, helping the team into the second round of playoffs.
In round two of playoffs against #8 Michigan-Dearborn, both teams would struggle to put the puck in the net as defenses dominated not allowing a goal in regulation, forcing overtime. With an exhausting 6 periods of overtime, Dearborn finally found a way to bury a goal in the end, which sent them off to the semi-finals. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played the entire game in goal for the Warriors preserving the shutout for as long as possible and making 34 saves.
The Warriors now sit at 20-10-2 overall on the season and will continue to work as they will train for the ACHA National Championships coming up in March in St. Louis, Missouri. They will wait for their final ACHA ranking and opponent to be determined in the coming weeks.
